Frugal Summer Fun Series: Faux Camping

I could probably write a post about how cheap it is to go camping…but I’m not sure it would be very original or even very helpful now that the summer is coming to a close. So let’s talk Faux Camping!

Things you will need:

  1. A tent. This can be a real camping tent, a popup play tent, a big box, or a homemade blanket tent indoors.
  2. Flashlights or lantern.
  3. Books.
  4. Music.
  5. Non-messy snacks.
  6. Water bottles filled with water.
  7. Small toys.
  8. Your imagination šŸ™‚

There is no reason camping has to be done away from home, outdoors, or even at night when it comes to kids! As long as you get them setup and started you could create a day of super camping fun that (should) give them some great end of summer entertainment.

Some entertainment ideas:

  1. Tell stories. Not too scary for the little kids!
  2. Make shadow puppets.
  3. Show them what clothes and hands looks like with a flashlight under it.
  4. Do a sing-a-long.
  5. Bring them food and let them eat in the tent.
  6. Read books about fun camping adventures.
  7. Do a dance party outside of the tent.
  8. Play games that you might do at camp.
  9. Let them wear their pajamas outside.
  10. Get friends and relatives involved and do a night BBQ/Campout.

Remember, it’s not about perfection, it’s about fun! Don’t forget the other posts in this series!
