Frugal Summer Fun Series: Hiking Scavenger Hunt

Where I live there are plenty of places to go hiking. For the experienced adventurers we have trails and mountains that will keep your heart racing and adrenaline pumping. But for the every day normal person with kids in tow, there are also a lot of “hiking” options. There are trails around most parks and are easy to find with a quick google search. My favorites are at Bowdoin Park and Poets Walk for you local readers.

Want to make hiking more fun? Try a scavenger hunt! You can come up with your own list of things to find or you can find some online with fun pictures for little kids. I like this one:

My little tidbits of advice before you head off. 1 – Check your weather forecast first. 2 – Use bug repellant. 3 – Bring water and snacks. 4 – Don’t walk out too far if you chose a path that doesn’t circle around, especially if your kids are new to hiking.

Don’t have a hiking path? Try an outdoor scavenger hunt in your local park, playground, or even backyard! Live in a city? I bet you can have fun making up a really fun scavenger hunt – give it a try!
