Frugal Summer Fun Series: Children’s Museums

When the weather isn’t ideal for being outside – it’s nice to have a fun, frugal indoor idea. Don’t forget about children’s museums!

I know New York City has a lot of them so I’m sure most other cities do too. If you’re lucky enough to live in or close to a city make sure to look around at your options and compare prices. Check out this amazing guide from Mommy Poppins on when you can get in free to tons of places! If you’re in a different city check out their site for a guide near you.

If you aren’t taking a trip to a city, do a little research and see if there are places in your area. We enjoy visiting the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum. You can of course go for a fee at any time, but they do offer options to save money. Every month they do a Saturday Late Night free play from 5-8pm where admission is free. Friday August 8th grandparents get in free with paid admission of a child for the entire day. Also, Adriance Library in Poughkeepsie and possibly other libraries have membership passes that you can use and get in for free! All you have to do is call the library in the morning and ask if the pass is available. If it is, you pick it up at the library – go enjoy the museum for free – and then bring the pass back before the end of the day. Pretty cool huh?

Want a great way to save money on museums? Check out groupon.com! I’ve seen a lot of deals for indoor children’s places popping up this summer. And don’t forget – you might find an adult museum in there too!
